An Interview With Aminah ImanTell us a bit about yourself. What would you like us to know about you? I am a mother of three outstanding children and I have a wonderfully supportive husband. I enjoy writing because you can go anywhere in the universe with pen and paper. Writing Lillith: My Genesis was an amazing experience and I am currently working on book two of the Lillith trilogy. What are you doing now? (Career? Married? Single? Children? Pets?) I am currently working on the second book of the Lillith series. My husband and children are being as supportive as they can with me. When I write it takes me away, mentally, for awhile, but it comes with the territory of being a full time author. What is your favourite food? My favorite food is salmon. What is your favourite colour? My favorite color is black. What is your favourite sound? My favorite sound is my children laughing. Who is your favourite person? I don't have a favorite person. My favorite people, as a collective, is my husband and children, and of course my mother. What is your favourite place? My husbands arms. What is your favourite memory? Going fishing with my grandfather when I was five. What is your favourite article of clothing? My pj's definitely. What is your favourite word? Please What is your favourite writers' quote and why? "Whether written, spoken, or read, words are the essence of power". I love that quote because I wrote it and because it is so true. Words hold so much power. You can uplift or put down with them, you can embrace or push away with them. They're just powerful. What is your most favourite quality about yourself? I love the fact that I am straight forward, no beating around the bush. I enjoy just getting it out in the open. What is the least favourite quality about yourself? I have little patients, which is not a good thing when you're an author. If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why? To Disneyland. Who doesn't love mickey mouse? Plus my kids would love it too. What inspires you to write and why? I am inspired to write by reading. I love the written word and my imagination is so vivid, when I read I can picture people reading my words and enjoying them as much as I enjoy reading other works of art. What is your favourite book and why? My favorite book is Morgans Cross by Nora Roberts, because it has passion, wizards, vampires,it just has everything I love in a good book. What is your favourite genre and why? I love fiction and supernatural because it takes a lot of imagination to put together characters like that. To take something make believe and turn it into a believable thing is amazing to me. List your three favourite authors (any genre) and why? Nora Roberts, because she is amazing. She has such a vivid imagination and the ability to make you see the action on the page, not just the words. What do you think makes a writer successful? I believe in order to be a successful writer you have to let the characters write the book. You have to listen to your characters, they know what they want you to write. You also have to write about what you know, do the research of your topic, whether it's a place, a supernatural being, whatever it is. Whta is it that makes you successful as a writer? I believe in what I'm writing about. I do my research and I listen to my characters. What are your goals as a writer? My goals as a writer is to make people laugh, cry, say ummmm. I want my books to make the reader not want to put the book down and when they do they're angry that they read it so fast. What is the best tip you can give to fellow writers? Write what you know about and if you don't know enough about the subject, research it. Also you have to read as much as you write, it sounds weird, but it helps. What do you hope to provide your readers with through your writing? I want my readers to think outside the box and enjoy the journey. I want to provide my readers with an alternate way of thinking. Just because people tell you the sky is blue, figure out what shade of blue it is for yourself. List your three favourite online writer-resource sites and why (include URLS). If you have published a book, tell us about your publishing success (title, publishing date and company, where it is available to purcahse). I have published Lillith: My Genesis. It was released in April of this year and it is available at lulu.com How long did it take you to write your book(s)? It took me about thirteen months to write Lillith, the second book is coming along faster because I know who she is as a character now. What would you do differently if you could repeat the same publishing experience? I would not obsess about the book so much. I would believe that when its done its done instead of holding on to the manuscript and obsessing. What have you learned about the publishing world? I learned that you have to open doors for yourself, you have to believe in yourself enough to push open close doors. This is your chance to 'Talk Back' to your readers. What would you like to say to them? I want to thank my readers for being interested enough in me to read this interview. I hope they enjoy the book as much as I enjoyed writing it,and the second book is coming soon. I would also like my readers to know that I have a line of books coming out dealing with the supernatural. They are going to be a lot of fun to read. What's the one thing that you want them to know about your writing? I want them to know that my writing is fiction with actual facts incorporated into it. I tell the story of a fictional character, but the information I put surrounding them can be verified. I enjoy the mix of the two, it makes the characters more believable. |
