An Interview With Christian WardTell us a bit about yourself. What would you like us to know about you? I am a 28 year old London based poet What are you doing now? (Career? Married? Single? Children? Pets?) I am currently working as a Freelance Journalist for an online financial services firm. What is your favourite food? Gnocchi, a type of pasta which is similar to potato dumplings. I like to have them with basil and tomato sauce. What is your favourite colour? Blue What is your favourite sound? A cats meow Who is your favourite person? My wife What is your favourite place? My bed What is your favourite memory? Spending Christmas with my Grandparents in Italy What is your favourite article of clothing? My jeans What is your favourite word? Moth What is your favourite writers' quote and why? "A poem is a postcard to the world", Emily Dickinson. What is your most favourite quality about yourself? Perseverance. I always get up even after being knocked down. What is the least favourite quality about yourself? Impatience If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why? San Diego. I loved visiting the city and the beach at Mission Bay was wonderful, as were the gardens and architecture. What inspires you to write and why? It it something that I am compelled to do. If I don't then I get withdrawal symptoms. It is my life and my purpose. What is your favourite book and why? Cannery Row by John Steinbeck. I first discovered this when I was a teenager and haven't put it down since. It's not only fun to read but it's also very colourful, the images stay with you long after you've finished it. What is your favourite genre and why? Poetry. It's the one genre that I enjoy exploring and pushing further. List your three favourite authors (any genre) and why? Elizabeth Bishop What do you think makes a writer successful? Persistence and hard work. You need to be determined to get far as a writer and be prepared to get up if you're knocked down. Hard work is an essential quality, you have to be prepared to put in the hours in order to reap the rewards. Whta is it that makes you successful as a writer? I could give a short answer and point to my list of publication credits, but I won't. What are your goals as a writer? I have several goals. Firstly, to work towards a collection of poetry. Secondly, to write a novel. But most importantly, to write consistently. What is the best tip you can give to fellow writers? Never give up What do you hope to provide your readers with through your writing? I have published several chapbooks: How long did it take you to write your book(s)? Each one took several months to write What would you do differently if you could repeat the same publishing experience? Think more about aspects such as marketing and PR What have you learned about the publishing world? That it's highly competitive and requires a lot of energy to accomplish your goals.
