An Interview With Beverly J RaffaeleTell us a bit about yourself. What would you like us to know about you? My passion is writing, art, and What are you doing now? (Career? Married? Single? Children? Pets?) I am proud to say that I share What is your favourite food? An old fashioned fried chicken dinner with mashed potatoes, chicken gravy, corn on the cob and hot blackberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream for desert. I won't eat it though but you asked me my favorite, not what I can eat. What is your favourite colour? Red, yellow, lavender, peach, some pinks, baby blue, turquoise, oranges. What is your favourite sound? Bird song, a laughing child, good music from purists like Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, lately Brooke White. Who is your favourite person? I don't have a favorite person. I love so many! What is your favourite place? My home, My dad's home, The Pacific Northwest, the ocean and the beautiful forests and mountain ranges here. What is your favourite memory? We weren't Grandparents at all and then four Grandbabies were born in four and a half months... They are all twenty now. What is your favourite article of clothing? Skirts and dresses. What is your favourite word? Grandchild What is your favourite writers' quote and why? Too many too mention, but I love many lyrics and the one that has always stood out for me is "If you have the chance to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance." What is your most favourite quality about yourself? I have the ability to smile at most anyone and I can talk to anyone no matter their station in life. What is the least favourite quality about yourself? I wish I was more tolerant of what I see as stupidity and laziness in others. If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why? Europe What inspires you to write and why? I am inspired by epic faces, a child's laugh, nature, character in people or the lack there of. Sometimes a scent will set me off or music. I have written on anything in sight to get an idea down before I lose it. What is your favourite book and why? Myriads of books, too many to mention. What is your favourite genre and why? For my own pleasure, I love Victorian murder mysteries. List your three favourite authors (any genre) and why? I have read every book Anne Perry has written thus far, Jane Austen, Malachy McCourt, Patrick McManus, so many many more. What do you think makes a writer successful? Grab me right off the bat, pull me in and don't spend too much time on the incidentals of a character; but show me the character through the story and through their dialogue. Put me in the scene, Anne Perry is a genious at it. Whta is it that makes you successful as a writer? Well for one thing, I can spell (what) lol... look above this box... What are your goals as a writer? To say something with my writing whether it's funny or tragic. To be able to pull the reader in with me. What is the best tip you can give to fellow writers? Show me, with good imagery, your scene, but know when enough is enough. IE: The rose was wafting perfume in a shade of not just pink but brilliant hot pink and it's petals were blah blah blah... Better: The yard was scented with roses as I stepped through the gate... Don't bore me with background on your characters but develop them through words and action. Don't get preachy unless your character is preachy or wise. Do not ramble like I am doing here. What do you hope to provide your readers with through your writing? Something for everyone in taste... List your three favourite online writer-resource sites and why (include URLS). Lit.orgSomething for everyone is here. If you have published a book, tell us about your publishing success (title, publishing date and company, where it is available to purcahse). "Peace, Love, Turmoil, Whimsy & Rhyme: The Poetic Works of Beverly J. Raffaele" How long did it take you to write your book(s)? One or more a year. What would you do differently if you could repeat the same publishing experience? Nothing What have you learned about the publishing world? It is very expensive to obtain publicity. This is your chance to 'Talk Back' to your readers. What would you like to say to them? I encourage all to write. It is a wonderful outlet for the spirit. I am happy to bring my books of Poetry to you with "A place to Pen Your Thoughts" following every poem so the books of poetry are also journals. What's the one thing that you want them to know about your writing? I paint a word picture. My favorite book that I have written so far is a book of story poems."Life Is A Ball Of Yarn: Sometimes Homespun, Sometimes Soft, But Almost Always A Little Twisted" |
