An Interview With Darren G. BurtonTell us a bit about yourself. What would you like us to know about you? I was born in Sydney, Australia, and am now living on the Gold Coast. I started writing more than 20 years ago. I've written full length works of fiction and non-fiction, as well as having had many articles and short stories published in major Australian and international publications. I love the arts and anything creative, including electric guitar and song writing, creating ambient music CDs, photography and landscape painting. What are you doing now? (Career? Married? Single? Children? Pets?) Right now I'm busy writing a new book. It's the third book I've written this year and I'm hoping to be finished it in the next few weeks. I'm engaged with no children. I have three pets. 2 Shih Tzu dogs and a peach face parrot. What is your favourite food? Definitely without a doubt Thai food. What is your favourite colour? I tend to be partial to strong blues. White is also a favourite. What is your favourite sound? My own guitar playing (he he). Seriously, though, I love the sounds of nature, particularly waterfalls and the rain. Love thunderstorms. Who is your favourite person? My fiance. What is your favourite place? I like tropical islands or time out in nature. The beach is also a favourite. What is your favourite memory? Childhood memories of when life was simpler and all I needed to care about was having fun. What is your favourite article of clothing? Nothing in particular. What is your favourite word? I could tell you but I don't know if it would be edited out of this interview. What is your favourite writers' quote and why? I don't have a favourite writers' quote. What is your most favourite quality about yourself? My determination. It's helped keep my head above water so many times in life. What is the least favourite quality about yourself? My bad temper and my lack of patience. If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why? To a secluded mountain cabin so I could indulge in some solitude and write better than I ever have. What inspires you to write and why? I feel like writing is what I was made for, born to do if you like. I love the expression of writing; cretaing stories that people enjoy to read, or offering information that may benefit others. What is your favourite book and why? Inca Gold by Clive Cussler. Classic tale of adventure, danger and treasure hunting. What is your favourite genre and why? Probably adventure thrillers. They offer me the best escapism from everyday life. List your three favourite authors (any genre) and why? 1) Robert McCammon - fantastic story teller with great characters. What do you think makes a writer successful? A writer must care about what he or she is writing about, and have an empathy for the audience that reads their work. Drive and determination to make things happen. You must love your craft. Witing can't feel like a chore or that will be conveyed in the writing. Whta is it that makes you successful as a writer? I love doing it. What are your goals as a writer? To make a comfortable living from doing what I love most. What is the best tip you can give to fellow writers? Never give up on your dream. The internet especially has opened so many new doors that were never open for writers before. What do you hope to provide your readers with through your writing? A sense of satisfaction. A desire to read more of my work. List your three favourite online writer-resource sites and why (include URLS). eHow - it is a great place to submit articles on subjects you know about to share with and help others. You can also promote yourself there with a resource link. If you have published a book, tell us about your publishing success (title, publishing date and company, where it is available to purcahse). My latest book is a relationship book titled - How To Keep Your Man: And Keep Him For Good. It was published by Lulu in May and has just been released on Amazon. How long did it take you to write your book(s)? Several months each. What would you do differently if you could repeat the same publishing experience? Nothing. What have you learned about the publishing world? It's very competitive and very cut-throat. This is your chance to 'Talk Back' to your readers. What would you like to say to them? Thank you for taking the time to read my humble works, and thank you for your ongoing support. What's the one thing that you want them to know about your writing? That I put everything into what I write so hopefully the reader will have a very enjoyable or informative experience through the reading of my work. |
