An Interview With Carmin WhartonTell us a bit about yourself. What would you like us to know about you? Lessons Learned: While Looking for Love in All the Wrong Faces is my first work. It is a memoir and based on my relationship experiences and the lessons I learned from these relationships. Actually, these lessons can be used by men as well and are applicable to any type of relationship - career, family, etc. What are you doing now? (Career? Married? Single? Children? Pets?) Currently I am working on my second book, "A Woman's Guide to the Promised Land." To pay the bills, I work in various capacities as an independent contractor. I design websites and I build online distance education courses for various institutions. What is your favourite food? Pancakes - I can eat them any time of the day or night. What is your favourite colour? Purple because it designates royalty. What is your favourite sound? Rhythm and blues, particularly from the 70s, 80s and 90s. I love Anita Baker, Luther Vandross, Earth, Wind & Fire. I also enjoy contemporary gospel artists such as Yolanda Adams. Who is your favourite person? That's a difficult question. I love several people equally for different reasons. What is your favourite place? Atlanta, Georgia. What is your favourite memory? The birth of my two children. What is your favourite article of clothing? Jeans that fit perfectly. What is your favourite word? I don't have one favorite word. I have some favorite phrases but not one favorite word. What is your favourite writers' quote and why? Well, I don't know if it's consider a "writer's quote" but my favorite quote is from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. "Faith is taking the first step when you can't see the whole staircase." What is your most favourite quality about yourself? My ability to relate to people from various backgrounds, regardless of race, culture or ethnicity. What is the least favourite quality about yourself? Impatience. If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why? New York City so that I can see the Broadway production of the Color Purple. What inspires you to write and why? The things which inspire me to write are: What is your favourite book and why? Waiting to Exhale because it showed me that I was not the only woman experiencing bizarre relationships. It gave me the courage and foresight to write my own story. What is your favourite genre and why? Self-help with a blend of Christian and Eastern Religion. Because they share the best and most helpful information from both faiths. List your three favourite authors (any genre) and why? Terry McMillian - Because she writes fiction stories which speak to situations that women, particularly Black women face. What do you think makes a writer successful? The ability to ignite the reader's imagination. The reader needs to be able to actually feel they are in the writer's shoes or actually witnessing the scene. Whta is it that makes you successful as a writer? My ability to relate to others and keep it real. What are your goals as a writer? To gain a fan base which spans the globe. What is the best tip you can give to fellow writers? Don't die with any books inside of you and write something everyday. What do you hope to provide your readers with through your writing? I hope to provide readers with a glimpse into the heart of a woman who is multifaceted. List your three favourite online writer-resource sites and why (include URLS). If you have published a book, tell us about your publishing success (title, publishing date and company, where it is available to purcahse). The title: Lessons Learned: While Looking for Love in All the Wrong Faces How long did it take you to write your book(s)? Five (5) years. What would you do differently if you could repeat the same publishing experience? I would develop a firm market strategy before the book is published. What have you learned about the publishing world? That you have to work your butt off to gain publicity for your book and that you have to have the expendable money to do so. This is your chance to 'Talk Back' to your readers. What would you like to say to them? Please know that whatever you are going through or are challenged by, you are not alone. There is somebody somewhere who has been through or is going through the same thing and they were triumphant. You will be do if you don't give up. What's the one thing that you want them to know about your writing? I write from my soul. |
