An Interview With Michelle Pillow

Tell us a bit about yourself. What would you like us to know about you?

I'm a romance author who loves her work. I recently won an RT Reviewers' Choice award for the book, Maiden and the Monster. I have several print books published (more in ebook). You can see them here:www.michellepillow.com/booklist.htm. My first book was published April 2004.

What are you doing now? (Career? Married? Single? Children? Pets?)

Happily married. We own a successful business which allows me to focus on my writing career.

What is your favourite food?

Chicken Parmesan

What is your favourite word?

What is your favourite writers' quote and why?

Why? Because he's a great character and that moment is when the reader finally sees him for what he is.

What is your most favourite quality about yourself?

Hard Work Ethic

What is the least favourite quality about yourself?

My hatred of the alarm clock

If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?

Slovakia, why not?

What inspires you to write and why?

I love creating stories that make people smile and believe in love.

What is your favourite book and why?

Nope. Too hard. Would be much easier to separate them by time period and genre, lol.

What is your favourite genre and why?

Romance. I believe in happy endings.

Mandy Roth - Cause she's awesome and puts up with my craziness

Jane Austin - Grandmother of Romance

Steinbeck - to see things the way he did

What do you think makes a writer successful?

Research.

Whta is it that makes you successful as a writer?

Hard work and researching everything

What are your goals as a writer?

To continue to be employed. To someday work on a non-fiction project. To write magazine columns.

What is the best tip you can give to fellow writers?

Research everything--your book, the industry, promotions and marketing

What do you hope to provide your readers with through your writing?

How long did it take you to write your book(s)?

Depends on the book. Anywhere from one to four months is average.

What would you do differently if you could repeat the same publishing experience?

Research marketing and promotion BEFORE getting published.

What have you learned about the publishing world?

Each author is their own business. Selling the book to a publisher is only about 1/4 of the work.

What's the one thing that you want them to know about your writing?

I write at different sensuality levels and in many sub-genres of romance--paranormal, historical, contemporary, futuristic, fantasy, dark fantasy
