An Interview With D'Andrea CunninghamTell us a bit about yourself. What would you like us to know about you? I am a self-published author and I have recently published my first of many books. I love writing when ever I get the chance. I am also a Playwright and I am getting ready to take my play on the road Spring/Summer 2006. What are you doing now? (Career? Married? Single? Children? Pets?) Right now I am finishing up my undergraduate work at a local university. I am majoring in Chemistry with an emphasis in biochem and biotech. I am not married and have never been married but I do have one child. What I would love right now is a small dog that I could dress up like a little doll. I would put sweaters and little shoes on the dog. I like animals but I don't have one right now. What is your favourite food? My favorite food is .....I don't know if I really have a favorite food. I do love onion rings. What is your favourite colour? My absolute favorite color is pink. I have pink boots, hats, shoes, shits, sweaters, and I make my daughter wear lots of pink. What is your favourite sound? My favorite is the silence of my two year old daughter when she is sleep (laughs). Who is your favourite person? UMM? What is your favourite place? I love going to the house of the Lord. So one of my favorite places is church. What is your favourite memory? My favorite memory is when my daughter was born. What is your favourite article of clothing? Anything pink. What is your favourite word? I am glad you asked that question. My favorite word is mock or mocked. What is your favourite writers' quote and why? Most of the books I read are non-fiction and informational so they don't really have quotes because they are written in formal style. I can not think of any quote. Sorry What is your most favourite quality about yourself? I love my tenacity and my drive to accomplish many of my goals. What is the least favourite quality about yourself? I have slight case of being impatient. I am working on it though but I know I am not alone on this one. If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why? If I could go anywhere it would be Cuba and to do missions work. I have always wanted the chance to do missions work overseas. What inspires you to write and why? My faith and relationship with God inspires me to write. The reason for this is because there is a great need for people everywhere who are miserable in life. I don't know anyone who does not want to be able to help somebody in a positive way through writing, singing, or even hand-on. What is your favourite book and why? The Bible because everything I need is in there. What is your favourite genre and why? Spiritual/Religion List your three favourite authors (any genre) and why? Bishop T.D. Jakes, Prophetess Juanita Bynum, and Ira Milligan. These three because they whatever they are talking about they always refer to the word of God. What do you think makes a writer successful? An attitude of success makes a successful writer. Organization is also very important to becoming a successful writer. Thinking positive and being organized can take you a long way. Writing out everything and keeping a planner helps you stay balanced. Speaking positive will help you maintain a healthy demeanor and attitude. Good ideas with a bad attitude is a recipe for failure. Whta is it that makes you successful as a writer? What I think will make a me a successful writer is the fact that I am a go-getter. I am getting my name out there and doing whatever it takes. What are your goals as a writer? My goal as a writer is to encourage, inspire, and reach people all around the world. What is the best tip you can give to fellow writers? Never G-I-V-E U-P! What do you hope to provide your readers with through your writing? The ability to see themselves for who and what they truly are. I want people to be aware of the flaws and issues so that they can be successful in life. So many people hold on to bad childhoods, bad relationships and this holds them back from being free mentally. I just want to see people walk away from their mistakes, and their past and realize if you can look up you can get up. As long as they are alive there is still hope and time to get themselves together and start enjoying everyday life. List your three favourite online writer-resource sites and why (include URLS). www.aalbc.com If you have published a book, tell us about your publishing success (title, publishing date and company, where it is available to purcahse). The title of my book is "Transparent: A Clear Understanding to Spiritual Diagnosis", and was published December 2005. I am a self-published author and glad that I went this route. My book is available on my website www.dandreaandanaya.com/mybook.html How long did it take you to write your book(s)? It took me about a week and a half to write my book I started the beginning of December and had it printed around the middle of December. The book is only about 82 pages so it is not a long book. What would you do differently if you could repeat the same publishing experience? Honestly, I would have to say nothing because so far everything has gone rather smooth. The Lord has blessed and it was a rather comfortable process. What have you learned about the publishing world? That everybody is trying to make a bi-zillion dollars for any and everything. I cut the middle man out wherever I could because I had such a small budget. I did my own bookcover, formatting, press release, promotional items, bio, website, copyright, isbn, and marketing. People want to charge so much for these services so I learned that I am capable of doing more than I ever thought. This is your chance to 'Talk Back' to your readers. What would you like to say to them? I would like to tell everyone that my writing are always biblically based. The things I write about are matters of the spirit, or spiritual. What's the one thing that you want them to know about your writing? My writing is not ordianary and as far as categorizing it would follow the likeness of people like Bishop T.D. Jakes, Prophetess Juanita Bynum-Weeks, and Bishop George Bloomer. |
