An Interview With Dana LittlejohnTell us a bit about yourself. What would you like us to know about you? In college, I thought it was time to grow up and get a job. I turned toward teaching, thinking that was my calling and I put down my pen for what I thought was the greater good. Several years passed by with several life changes. I realized you have to be a special kind of a person to teach other people's children. Three years into teaching realized I wasn't that kind of person. So I went back to my first love, writing. What are you doing now? (Career? Married? Single? Children? Pets?) I live in Indianapolis, In. with my husband and 2 children left at home, 2 cats, Hix from the sticks and Powder, and 2 dogs, Sonny and Hershey. What is your favourite food? My favorite foods...so many to choose form. I love Italian food and seafood and I probably could sit around all day and eat green grapes for breakfast, lunch and dinner What is your favourite colour? My color has always been purple. All shades of purple. What is your favourite sound? I like soft smooth melodies...something romantic. Who is your favourite person? What is your favourite place? I haven't been to enough places to have a favorite yet. :-) What is your favourite memory? What is your favourite article of clothing? What is your favourite word? What is your favourite writers' quote and why? "Change your mind and the rest will follow." My pastor, Pastor Jeffery A. Johnson Sr. said it and I believe it. If we can change our thoughts the mind controls the body and behavior. What is your most favourite quality about yourself? I like the fact that I can think outside of the box and can work well with the "what if" factor. What is the least favourite quality about yourself? If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why? The US Virgin Islands. I have always wanted to go since I was a kid. I've seen beautiful pictures and I want to stand under a waterfall like all the models do. What inspires you to write and why? Something will just spark the question in my mind, what if this happened, and I'll play on that. Sometimes there's a message, most times there isn't. What is your favourite book and why? To love again, by Bertrice Small. I loved this book. It was romance at it's best with action, deception, love, sex...it pulled on all my emotions and I loved it. What is your favourite genre and why? I love historical romances. I love to read about strong, young , independant women who rule the men in their lives with skill that they shouldn't even have at such a young age. List your three favourite authors (any genre) and why? Terry Mc Millin, Jackie Collins and Bertice Small because they don't write about weak or silly women. They are stong willed and powerful for their time. What do you think makes a writer successful? I think a successful writer has a following of people who really love their writings. Whta is it that makes you successful as a writer? What are your goals as a writer? My goal is to continue to write my books for me and those who want to read them. What is the best tip you can give to fellow writers? Write for you and don't give yourself bounderies. What do you hope to provide your readers with through your writing? A new voice. I want my readers to see themselves or someone they know in my writing so they can connect with my characters. List your three favourite online writer-resource sites and why (include URLS). If you have published a book, tell us about your publishing success (title, publishing date and company, where it is available to purcahse). How long did it take you to write your book(s)? I go through a process when I write. It may take me 4-6 months to manually get the "raw" story out of my head and onto paper, but then it will take me another 4-6 months to put it on the computer and edit, add and substract. I follow this process with all the books I've written, but some are longer than others. What would you do differently if you could repeat the same publishing experience? What have you learned about the publishing world? You must have patience and if you don't have you will learn it when waiting for a reply to a query or synopsis. This is your chance to 'Talk Back' to your readers. What would you like to say to them? What's the one thing that you want them to know about your writing? None of these charcters are me! :-) I write for the joy it gives. If my writing gives you some enyment than stay with me. I plan to keep us both happy. |
