An Interview With Caitlin NicNubill

Tell us a bit about yourself. What would you like us to know about you?

About me? I have always considered myself blessed with the gift of telling a good story. I just love to inspire the spirit of a person with the gift of possibilities. That's just who I am.

What are you doing now? (Career? Married? Single? Children? Pets?)

Well, I'm single, and I have a cat that I call, Idy Bidy. She's adorable, especially when she's getting into trouble. I just love the way that she chases around the dog around the house. She isn't afraid a single bit until Pedro gets all excited. Then her tail is puffy.

What is your favourite food?

My favorite food has to be salad. It's an amazing dish that you can do anything with. I don't eat it as often as I would like, though.

What is your favourite colour?

My favorite colour would have to be green. I think that has something to do with my Irish hertiage.. At least with the green. It used to be red from what my mother tells me, but I couldn't say why.

What is your favourite sound?

I don't really have a favorite sound, but I guess I like to hear music. I guess that's a sound, isn't it?

Who is your favourite person?

My favorite person has to be my brother, Steven Noble. He's what I call my editor, as he is amazing. If I need an idea or direction to go in my book because I couldn't figure it out. He has another view and gives me an idea. It usually helps, believe me.

What is your favourite place?

My favorite place has to be Europe as a whole. I was born in Germany when my father was stationed there while he served in the Army. I feel as if I have a connection thru my blood to my brothers and sisters in Europe. Even if I live in the United States right now.

What is your favourite memory?

I have way too many memories that I think fondly of to mention just one. Some of them are odd, and people would look at me funny. The time that my house had a fire, and we had to find our dog Pedro. Each of us went into the house at the risk of our own lives to find him. We searched every where, and when I found him. He was behind the TV and was scared. To be honest, I was so relieved and think fondly of that moment, when I found him...

What is your favourite article of clothing?

Well, I don't really have a favorite article of clothing at the moment. Let's see if I can think of something that I used to like. Okay, I used to love Star Trek, and I had this shirt that I called my Star Trek shirt. That was because it almost looked like the top of the Next generation uniforms. The only thing was that it was black and an awful color green at top.

What is your favourite word?

My favorite word has to be Hope. I have hope for a great deal of things, and that's all that keeps me going in bad times.

What is your favourite writers' quote and why?

The Hobbits are just rustic English people, made small in size because it reflects the generally small reach of their imagination. When I read that one, I thought only one word and that was, "OUCH!"

What is your most favourite quality about yourself?

My ability to develp a world and people in that world. My creative nature is my favorite quality about myself.

What is the least favourite quality about yourself?

My least favorite quality has to be my temper, but it doens't happen very often. Thankfully.

If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?

Where would I go? Well, that's easy. It would be Scotland because since watching the movie, "Braveheart". I have always loved Scotland, and have a great desire to move there. Actually, my family has Scottish in us, and I want to have children there so they are Scottish. They are a people that truly woudn't be wiped from the face of the Earth.

What inspires you to write and why?

What inspires me to write is a simple answer. I write because I am drawn to write. To tell a good story and entertain/inspire the spirt of whoever reads it. I want to give out hope if you look between the lines. Thru hardship, and pain that my character faces.

What is your favourite book and why?

My favorite book is Lord of the Rings, and it is because it is an amazing book. I heard that he wanted it to be the national epic of England. Well, he succeeded in that but the national epic of all Europeans. Including the ones here in America.

What is your favourite genre and why?

My favorite Genre is Fantasy, because you can create a world of magic and wonder. Yet, you can see real modern life in there as well. Fantasy can take place in the far future, and the distant past. It can take place at any time. It is open to possibilities.

List your three favourite authors (any genre) and why?

JRR Tolkien - I just love the Lord of the Rings, and the Hobbit.

Terry Goodkind - because he's book series, "The Sword of Truth" was written the way that he wanted it to be, without people telling him he was wrong. He didn't give in.

Stepen King -- Even if I never read one of his books, he still had the courage to write different genres of books. He didn't always succeed at that.

What do you think makes a writer successful?

What makes a writer successful is when people read their books. Even if they don't make very much on them. Being able to tell a good story and people email or write you about that. Wanting to know more about it. If no one is reading your book, then you're not successful at all.

Whta is it that makes you successful as a writer?

While I have just started out, and I don't know how successful my promotions have been. But I suppose what makes me successful as a writer is that I am getting some attention. It's only a matter of time before my book takes off as the gem that it is.

What are your goals as a writer?

My goals as a writer is to continue writing in my series that I call, "The Goddess Saga." I think that it's funny that when I was doing practice so I could write better. I joined PBEMs, and sadly, most of those don't last. So I started writing to always have my characters with me. I decided that instead of creating new worlds with each book, I would stay with a single world.

The world of Aldara. That's my goal. Is to continue to visit the world of Aldara and the lives of the people who I have come to love. Despite not being real and only my imagination.

What is the best tip you can give to fellow writers?

The best tip that I can give other writers is to always listen to your voice, your opintions. Not matter how unpopular they are. Find a way to blend in your thoughts in a way that people see it from another point of view. That's my advice, and also, don't let other people tell you what the story is.

Don't change something because one person didn't like it. If you do that, no one will ever be happy.

What do you hope to provide your readers with through your writing?

Entertainment, inspiration, and hope.

List your three favourite online writer-resource sites and why (include URLS).

I don't really have any online writer resource sites. I wish I did, but I never have found one with decent people on it. I have a poetry site that I go to, but that's not really what your asking for.

If you have published a book, tell us about your publishing success (title, publishing date and company, where it is available to purcahse).

The Dragon's Heart
June 12, 2006
Publish America
Online bookstores (BN.com, Borders.com, PublishAmerica.com, and etc.)

You can also go order it thru any bookstores with the ISBN #1-4137-9301-0.

How long did it take you to write your book(s)?

It took me a year to write, but that is also with the time that I was writing two other stories. One had plenty of drama, but no action. The other had plenty of action, but no drama. I joined the stories together, and wrote a history of what had happened. Thus the Dragon's Heart was born.

What would you do differently if you could repeat the same publishing experience?

If I could do things differently I might have done a lot of things differently. I would have written my new book while I was waiting for my proofs to come. I was nervous and it was my first time. That's the only thing I would change.

What have you learned about the publishing world?

What have I learned about the publishing world? Well that unlike me, the publish world is all about earning money and whatever sells--- they'll publish or the book stores will sell. I guess that really goes against the grain of my inner self. I don't write for money, but the love of a good story. That's me.

This is your chance to 'Talk Back' to your readers. What would you like to say to them?

Hello readers! I just want you to know that I will always do my best to put out the best story that I have in my heart. If a story isn't ready to be told , then I won't write it until it is. That's just my promise to those people who might have found my book or the sequel in the bookstores.

What's the one thing that you want them to know about your writing?

That I love to write, and I always will.
